History of Georg Jensen
Born in 1866, Georg Arthur Jensen was one of the most important silversmiths of his time. Jensen founded the company that bears his name in 1904 after studying at the prestigious Royal Danish Academy of Arts. Over the years, Georg Jensen's designs have been co-designed with Prince Sigvard Bernadotte of Sweden, Lunning Prize winner Henning Koppel and Danish modernist pioneer Arne Jacobsen. Shortly after founding the company, Jensen expanded its operations from Copenhagen to Berlin and the following year the company won a gold medal for its products at an international exhibition in Brussels. Success abroad continued despite the First World War. In 1915, Georg Jensen was awarded the Grand Prix at the Panama-Pacific World Exposition in San Francisco.
Jensen remained with the company until his death and his distinctive Art Noveau style is still strongly present in Georg Jensen's modern products. Gently flowing shapes and sculptural details make the products sublime and charismatic.
