The watch is equipped with wrist-based heart rate measuring (designed by Valencell) and can be used without HR belt.

Suunto 9 Baro Black has been designed to support you during your outdoor sports performances and adventures. The watch is equipped with a brand new battery innovation which allows your Suunto 9 Black to perform for up to 120 h with GPS switched on! Always stay informed about your watch’s battery levels with the watch’s smart battery life management tool. Your watch will automatically notify you whenever you should adjust your settings in order to make your battery last for longer. The design allows you to choose from three different battery mode alternatives to optimize your watch for your situation: Performance, Endurance and Ultra. When the watch is used in Performance mode the GPS is used at full power mode which allows your battery to last for approx. 25 hours. The watch’s battery life can be extended to up to 120 hours by switching to Ultra mode. Whenever you start your training session Suunto 9 Black will tell you an estimate for the remaining battery life. You may use this as your guideline when picking your setting from the various battery mode alternatives. Your premium quality multisport watch can also be kept in simple watch mode, which allows its battery to last for up to 14 days. The battery will last for up to 7 days when the 24/7 activity tracking and phone notifications are in use.
